Configuration Sources
DearScenario Player loads configuration from multiple sources at startup. The priority order (highest to lowest):
| Rank | Source | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | CLI arguments | --base-port 8080 --maintenance |
| 2 | Selected configuration file | --config C:\venue\show.json or the default <exe_dir>\config.json |
| 3 | Built-in defaults | network.base_port=18290 |
--config selects the file to load; it is not a second layer merged on top of
the default config.json.
Apply configuration changes
Configuration files are read when the player starts. After editing the selected file or using Save config in Settings, restart the player to apply changes. This includes control ports, listen addresses, source allowlists, audio output, and display settings. Saving does not replace the running control listeners.
The dedicated idle-screen controls provide a local preview. Maintenance mask calibration can also update the picture immediately; saving a mask preserves other settings already saved for the next startup. Session overlays are cleared when the process exits.
CLI arguments are parsed at each launch and override that launch's file values.
Naming
Use JSON paths when editing config.json, such as network.base_port and
network.listen_address. Use CLI argument names when launching the executable,
such as --base-port and --listen-address.
