Audio

DearScenario Player routes decoded audio through libmpv, then to an OS output device. When sound is missing on site, check three layers before blaming the media file.

Volume layers

LayerWhere to lookNotes
PlayerControls tab volume / mute; volume_set / mute_setAlways available when media is loaded
Application sessionTools → Audio (Windows)Per-process mixer row; may be missing until audio is playing
System masterTools → Audio / OS sound settingsOS default device mute or volume

Output device

Config:

{ "audio": { "output_device": "auto" } }
ValueBehavior
"auto"Follow the operating system default output device
Device IDForce a specific libmpv audio-device ID

Change it from:

  • Settings (when exposed), or
  • debug panel Tools → Audio → Output device, then save

CLI: --audio-output-device.

Reading Tools → Audio routing

With media loaded, open Tools → Audio and refresh diagnostics:

RowMeaning
Audio trackTrack count and selection (or “No media loaded.”)
Available backendsPlatform backends (CoreAudio, WASAPI, ALSA, …)
Active backendBackend currently opened by libmpv
Requested deviceConfigured output_device (Auto = system default)
Resolved OS endpointActual OS device when observable
Player volumePlayer-level percent and mute

If the saved device is unavailable, playback falls back to auto and the panel shows a warning.

Troubleshooting checklist

  1. Confirm media actually has an audio track (Status / Tools routing table).
  2. Unmute player volume in Controls.
  3. Set Output device to Auto, then to the correct HDMI / USB interface.
  4. Check OS master mute and the correct default playback device.
  5. On Windows, check the DearScenario Player session row in the system mixer while audio is playing.
  6. Try another file / codec; see Encoding.
